Towerstream operates the largest NYC WiFi network, and the company is taking a new approach to free WiFi promotions. With over 1,000 hot spots in Manhattan, Towerstream has decided to devote part of their network to free access with a catch like most other wifi providers. That is, the company will try to tempt user into downloading the app of the day via BlisMobile in exchange for 4 hours of free WiFi. They are also renting out portions of their network to daily deal sites, and users who take advantage of the Daily Deal could also get free WiFi as a bonus.
Towerstream will still charge companies for their sponsorship on the WiFi access points on a given day. The company will be devoting one of its nine WiFi channels to this purpose, with the ultimate goal of creating the largest WiFi network in the country.
